Why you should use this book:  It peeks curiosity regarding this time in history.  The book is a great starting point for lessons on various topics:  immigration, challenges for immigrants, research strategies, relationships between new immigrants and Native Americans, different perspectives, immigration today. 


 

Essential Questions:  Why did people immigrate here?  What were some of the challenges? What were the relationships between new immigrants and Native Americans?,  How do you gather information to research possible endings to this story? What is it like to be an immigrant?  What are some of the challenges facing immigrants today?  How can we make a difference in the lives of immigrants today?
