This book tells the story of Squanto from young childhood to death.  He is Native American that is taken from is home land (America) and brought to Spain to be a slave.  While there he learns the English language and then journeys back to America.  Once home he finds that his tribe the Pawtuxets have been destroyed by a plague.  Later he notices White settlers have come and taken over his home land, so Squanto decides to befriend the settlers and teach them to hunt, fish, and harvest crops, so that they may have peace and survive in this land.  Squanto is a translator between the Native American tribes and the White settlers and creates a peace treaty between them.  This peace treaty is what leads to the First Thanksgiving.
