This storybird represents the time in history when life was beginning anew for the Pilgrims who were searching for freedom. Leaving England, and then Holland, the Pilgrims needed a new leader after John Carver's passing.
Based upon the history of the Pilgrims, William Bradford was a great man. Elected to governor 30 different times, Bradford helped establish the Pilgrim colony, and brought peace to the area during his friendship with the Wampanoag chief, Massasoit.
This is important to consider because at the time there was little that was known about the Native Americans. Believed to be savages, Bradford began trading with the Wampanoag Indians. This trading made the survival of the new found colony possible.
