Friendship Struggles

Friendship Struggles by amych on Storybird

StoryBird Explanation

This storybird was created in reference to the situation the Narragansetts were in when fighting erupted between the Pilgrims and some Native Americans. The book The Mayflower, by Nathaniel Philbrick, describes this on page 272. What makes this interesting is that the Pilgrim's original vision of being able to worship as they pleased, without being bothered by others, is what brought them to the New World. This sounds similar to what the Narragansetts might have been feeling when the war started. They wanted to be left alone, to live in peace. However, the Pilgrims sought them out and and brought them into the war.

In today's world, children often are forced to deal with being pulled into arguments that are occurring within their social groups. "Friendship Struggles" reflects on the sadness and confusion that may accompany a situation such as this. It provides a springboard for discussions that encourage them to look at solutions to this problem.
