StoryBird Explanation

This story is about a little girl who comes from her country as an immigrant and has to conform to our American way of life. She is happy and sad at times but learns to look at the wonderful things in life.

This storybird represents the time in history when the desire to gain and maintain power by having others conform began and has continued. While we say our country is based on freedom, there is still pressure placed on new immigrants to conform to the "American" way of life.

In The Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick this is represented on page p. 128. It was clear that no matter how it was done in England, Plymouth played by its own, God-ordained rules, and everyone - Separatist or Anglican - was expected to conform.

When I think about it now I realize that people need to be more accepting of eachother no matter where they come from.  There needs to be people in power but there is no need to diminish others that also deserve power.  Our society would be much different if people were not so worried about not accepting change.
